Pause and resume tracking
When to pause
Pause when you’re using your Mac for something that isn’t work, such as personal browsing in the evening or on the weekend. While WFH Diary is paused, time isn’t recorded and you won’t be asked about it.
You don’t need to pause for short breaks. A gap under 15 minutes counts as work, and after a longer gap WFH Diary asks whether you were working. If you forget to pause, you can still leave a session out later from the Day screen.
How to pause
- Click the WFH Diary icon in the menu bar.
- At the bottom of the popover, click the pause button (its tooltip says Pause tracking).
The session you were in ends at that moment and keeps the time recorded up to the pause.
How to tell it’s paused
You can see a pause in three places, so it’s hard to forget.
- The menu bar icon changes to a pause symbol.
- The popover shows a Paused chip and the line “Paused. Time isn’t recorded.”
- The diary window’s sidebar says Tracking paused.
How to resume
- Click the WFH Diary icon in the menu bar.
- Click the play button (its tooltip says Resume tracking).
Tracking starts again the next time you use your Mac. That starts a fresh session, so the paused time isn’t counted as an away period.
Pausing and quitting
A pause lasts until you resume, even if you quit WFH Diary or restart your Mac. When it opens again, it stays paused.
The pause applies to this Mac only. If you use WFH Diary on two Macs, the other one keeps tracking.
Quitting is different from pausing. Click the power button in the popover to quit. Nothing is recorded while the app isn’t running, and if Open at login is on it starts again when you next log in, tracking unless you’d paused it.
