About WFH Diary

Short answerWFH Diary is made by Apptractive Pty Ltd, a small Australian software company. We built it because the ATO’s fixed rate method needs a record of actual hours worked from home, kept at the time, and a Mac can keep that record for you.

Why we built it

From 1 March 2023 the ATO stopped accepting estimates and four-week sample diaries for the fixed rate method. You now need a record of the actual hours you worked from home for the whole year. Most people who work at a computer already have a machine that knows when it was in use. WFH Diary turns that into a diary you can check, without recording anything about what you do.

What we believe

  • Records, not guesses. Hours are recorded as they happen. Anything added later is labelled that way in your report.
  • Private by design. WFH Diary records when your Mac is in use, never what you do. Your records stay on your Macs and in your own iCloud. We have no servers that hold your data, and no analytics.
  • Plain answers. Our guides say what the ATO says, link to it, and say when something is uncertain.
