Reminders and open at login
Turn on open at login
Open at login starts WFH Diary when you log in to your Mac, so you never miss a day because the app wasn’t running. It’s off until you turn it on.
- Click the WFH Diary icon in the menu bar, then the gear button to open Settings.
- On the General tab, under Startup, turn on Open at login.
If macOS can’t add it, the reason appears under the switch. You can also check it in System Settings, General, Login Items. Open at login is set on each Mac separately.
Set a daily reminder
The daily reminder is a nudge to confirm your hours while the day is fresh. Tapping it opens the diary.
- Open Settings and stay on the General tab.
- Under Reminders, turn on Daily reminder to confirm hours.
- If macOS asks whether WFH Diary can send notifications, click Allow.
- Set the Reminder time. The default is 6:00 pm.
The reminder says “Confirm your WFH hours”. You can also set it up in the welcome steps when you first open the app, with Remind me daily to confirm my hours.
By default the reminder comes Monday to Friday. To get it every day, go to Settings, General, and under Tracking turn off Workdays only (skip weekend reminders).
To stop reminders, turn Daily reminder to confirm hours off.
Answer away prompts from a notification
When you come back after a pause longer than 15 minutes, WFH Diary can ask by notification whether you were working. Answering then means your answer is recorded close to the time.
The notification shows how long you were away. Use its options to answer I was working, Working, add a note… or Break. If you miss it, the same question waits in the menu bar popover and in Review, with Worked and Break buttons.
If notifications don’t appear
Notifications are optional, and tracking works without them. If you want them but they don’t appear:
- Open System Settings, then Notifications.
- Find WFH Diary in the list and turn on Allow notifications.
- Check that Focus or Do Not Disturb isn’t hiding them at your reminder time.
Notifications are local to your Mac. WFH Diary doesn’t use push notifications or send anything to a server.
